GROWTH
For such a long time I stared
at the soil and saw nothing but dirt.
Then one day, a little shoot began to take root;
tiny and tender and luminous green!
So I warmed it with sunshine and
showered it with water.
On most days, I just waited and waited
and at times grew so frustrated that I
didn’t have the will to let any light in.
Still, I continued to pour more
of my effort into the earth
until eventually I saw branches begin to grow
and feel roots push deeper into the ground.
Now each season I nourish myself
with the fruit that hangs ripe off my tree.
