I searched for love in the heart of another

but after time, the feeling faded
and when love wasn’t there

I found disappointment.

I searched for love in the pursuit of status

but when the thrill of praise and possession
left me as quickly as it came

I found emptiness.

I searched for love in every land
but after I had traveled so far away
and I had nowhere left to go

I found loneliness.

When everything shattered and crumbled,
I gave up all my plans and stubbornness

and there I found my pain.

Just then love arrived to embrace me

and show me how the source of
what I sought had always lived inside.
