COMPASSION
When we practice compassion we
practice reducing unnecessary suffering
for ourselves and each other.
Offered through the unclenched jaw
offered through a private and gentle intimacy
offered through the relinquishment of our expectations.
We learn to touch the timeless, weightless,
oceanic feeling
to which all of life belongs.
We tenderly return to ourselves, again and again
and forgive ourselves for forgetting that
without love
life is just doing time
and without kindness
there will always be too much of it.
